Armenian community protests in Strasbourg, urges PACE not to endanger peace in Karabakh
“Hayordi” Armenian community staged a protest in Strasbourg today in connection with PACE’s debates and votes on two controversial anti-Armenian reports. The protesters demanded that the drafts be rejected by PACE.
The correspondent of Panorama.am reported from Strasbourg that Chairman of “Hayordi” Sargis Hovsepyan said that Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh Republic) has not been and will never be part of Azerbaijan.
The protesters held up the flags of Armenia and Karabakh, and posters with photos of Artsakh children waving flags of Council of Europe member states. The posters read “Don’t compromise our PeACE”. Small copies of those posters were distributed to passersby.
As was reported, PACE earlier today voted on the two reports. “Inhabitants of frontier regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of water” – a scandalous report prepared by Milica Markovic, MP from Bosnia and Herzegovina - was adopted by 98 votes to 71, with 40 abstentions. Another controversial report, “Escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and the other occupied territories of Azerbaijan” prepared by British MP Robert Walter, was rejected in a 66-77 vote.
