No threat of Zika virus in Armenia, mosquitoes transmitting it not found here: health minister
Mosquitoes able to transmit the Zika virus are not normally found in Armenia, Health Minister Armen Muradyan said at the sitting of the Armenian parliament today when responding to a question of MP Hovhannes Margaryan who said citizens of Armenia are concerned over the possible spread of Zika.
According to the minister, there is little likelihood that the Zika virus will spread in Armenia as our country is now outside the zone of the Zika virus spread. Armenian citizens may become infected with the virus only in the countries declared risk zones by WHO.
“As regards sexual spread of Zika virus, it was not proven: the virus is transmitted by mosquitoes,” Muradyan stressed.
In his words, the Zika virus is a risk to pregnant women so he urged them not to travel to countries considered Zika ‘hot zones’. In his words, relevant guides have already been issued for Armenia’s epidemiological bodies, hospitals and maternity homes.
