The Azerbaijani mass media misquoted Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias by attributing   words to him that the minister did not actually say.

At a press conference held following a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart in Baku, Mr Kotzias in particular addressed the Karabakh problem and stated about his support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.

1news.az, meanwhile, wrote that the Greek official allegedly said: “We support Azerbaijan’s position on this issue”.  In reality the minister did not make that statement, but only said that the Azerbaijani counterpart informed him about Baku’s position.

It becomes apparent from the statements of Nikos Kotzias’ press conference in Baku available on the website of Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the Greek official said: “And I express my support for the Minsk Group’s efforts to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs gave me information for a better understanding of the position of our friends in Azerbaijan on this issue”.
