Yervand Kochar’s ‘Melancholy’ is one of the world’s strangest monuments
Modern sculptors are said to be unable to create works that would amaze viewers and stir their imagination – they say that real masterpieces were carved only in ancient times. In reality, contemporary sculptors, too, can stun people, according to kulturologia.ru.
Among the world’s 25 strangest monuments and sculptures is also ‘Melancholy’ work by famous Armenian sculptor Yervand Kochar. The sculpture was set up on Byuzand Street in Yerevan in 2003. The 4.6 meters high sculpture is made of bronze and granite. The monument depicts modern civilization, its achievements, dangerous gradual transformation of man’s inner world, and his alienation from nature.
