Two candidates for Armenian ombudsman proposed so far
Two candidates for Armenia’s ombudsman (human rights defender) have been proposed so far to National Assembly’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, Panorama.am learned from the standing committee.
These two candidates are deputy justice minister of Armenia Arman Tatoyan who was nominated by member of Republican Party of Armenia’s faction, head of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Hovhannes Sahakyan, and Ms. Zaruhi Postanjyan nominated by MP Edmon Marukyan.
No other candidates were put forward, although ‘Prosperous Armenia’ faction said that it will nominate lawyer Makar Yeghiazaryan. Armenian National Congress (ANC) Party said it will not participate in ombudsman’s election.
It is noteworthy that the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs is competent to submit proposals regarding a candidate for ombudsman to the parliament.
Besides, a draft decision establishes the order and deadline for filing applications to the standing committee about candidates for Armenian ombudsman.
