In Baku Swedish Foreign Minister highlights importance of people’s right to self-determination
Sweden is committed to the political settlement of Karabakh conflict and to the negotiation process through the OSCE Minsk Group, the Foreign Minister of Sweden Margot Wallström told a joint press conference with Elmar Mammadyarov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, in Baku, according to the information agency Report.
The Swedish Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of the right of people to self-determination. “We are ready to take part in the process. The principles of non-use of force, inviolability of borders and self-determination of people should be observed. In case of a necessity to hold a meeting in a wider format for settling the conflict, we are ready to take part in that meeting as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group,” Margot Wallström said.
After the meeting with Wallström, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister said Azerbaijan is not still planning any meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
APA news agency reports that the Swedish Foreign Minister said during a meeting with Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, that she met several women in Azerbaijan who told her about their readiness ‘to sit at the same table with the Armenians to discuss a solution to the problem and its future perspectives.’
On February 8 and 9, Margot Wallström, the Foreign Minister of Sweden, was on an official visit to Armenia invited by the Foreign Minister of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian.
