If there was a law on domestic violence, we wouldn’t have witnessed a few tragic cases. During a meeting on topic of “Domestic Violence and Law Enforcement in Armenia” hosted at Media Center expressed a representative of the “Society without Violence” NGO Sona Hovakimyan her opinion.

The Projects Manager of the Coalition to Stop Violence against Women Zara Hovhannisyan in her assessment mentioned that in case of adopting such a law, there will be established a mechanism which will prevent the situation from worsening and reaching the point where there is no possibility to intervene.

“There is a distinct example, when a woman called the police telling them that she became a victim of intimidation, but there were taken no serious steps because of the absence of a single law under which concrete steps could have been conducted. Today there is a case where a mother of 2 underage became a victim of cruel homicide,” said S. Hovakimyan.
