The number of tourists coming to Armenia has been decreased
The number of tourists coming to Armenia has been decreased in 2015 in comparison to 2014. Mekhak Apresyan, head of the Department of Tourism Development Policy of RA Ministry of Economy said this to the journalists today.
She said that in 2015 the number of tourists visiting Armenia was 1, 192 million, but in 2014 that number was 1, 203 million.
“This decrease in number is mainly associated with the decline in the number of visitors coming from Russian Federation. Russian tourists play an important role in the figures of tourism and the decline in Russian tourists’ visits has a negative impact on the overall numbers”, said Mekhak Apresyan. The analysis of the nine months of 2015 showed that the oversea travel from Russia to all directions has been decreased by 30%, but to Armenia only by 6%.
Although fewer tourists came to Armenia, Mekhak Apresyan considers 2015 as a successful year. An influx of tourist has been increased from different other states. “Although the number of tourists coming from Russia has been decreased, there was an increase in the number of tourists from the USA by 40 %, from Iran by 24%, from Iraq and European states”, said Mekhak Apresyan.
