Almost 2 Years Armenian Ballet Hasn’t Done Anything: Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia
“It is two years that the Armenian Ballet hasn’t created anything not being able to do anything. It’s a pity,” said a ballet master of National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Named after Al. Spendiaryan honored artist of the Republic of Armenia Rudolf Kharatyan.
He noted that after having worked for many years in the United States he came back to Armenia with some novelties, but failed to introduce them into the Armenian Ballet Theatre during the period he has been working here.
“It required physical, spiritual, mental work. Those young people who were able to adopt the novelties that I brought, made progress, but those who are not used to working, rebelled then started a petition, the latter is a modern thing in Armenia. The high rank officials then helped these people without realizing whether Armenia needs ballet or not,” said R. Kharatyan.
The Chief ballet master of National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Named after Al. Spendiaryan honored artist of the Republic of Armenia Rudolf Kharatyan applied for resignation on April 22, 2014. He has been replaced by another Honored Artist of RA Vilen Galstyan. Rudolf Kharatyan then kept his job at the ballet theatre as an invited ballet master. It should be noted that the troupe had compiled a petition.
Referring to the Armenian ballet art as well as answering to the question on whether Armenia can hold a deserved place in international culture arena on the basis of khachatryanian style artworks, Mr. Kharatyan said, “In ballet lexicon there can be found phenomena combined by national and folklore items, but the overall performance can never be performed in an ensemble.”
According to R. Kharatyan, once he even tried to invite a choreographer from Ney York City to stage “Gayane Ballet” by Aram Khachatryan.
Even today, it is quite difficult for me. When I hear the music from “Gayane Ballet”, I come up with new dance movements that want to see in action. I guess that there is a need to invite someone knew to stage this very ballet in a renewed libretto. I hope that this issue will be discussed one day. The music must not lose its value,” added the honored artist.
