Pipoyan: Armenian consumers do not have accurate and right information
After the investigation of the several products conducted by the “Roscontrol” company, some of them were included in the “black list”. Some these products are being imported, advertised and sold in Armenian stores.
What is the situation in the Armenian food market? Babken Pipoyan, the head of the “Aware and Protected consumer” NGO, said to Panorama.am that unfortunately, Armenian consumers do not have accurate information. According to him, State Service for Food Safety is responsible for this situation.
“In fact, the actions of the service caused a panic among the consumers”, stated Pipoyan.
What should the service do? Pipoyan thinks that the SSFS must do the monitoring projects for understanding the situation in the field.
Pipoyan noted that there are people in the SSFS, who know the sphere, but they are not the decision-makers.
As for the SSFS’s statements that the government does not encourage the implementation of the inspectations, Pipoyan thinks that the time that the SSFS spends on it would be enough for resolving that problem. He stated that the SSFS should conduct monitoring projects instead of inspections.
The government did not prohibit the SSFS to detect the problem and to withdraw the dangerous products from the market”, said Pipoyan.
According to Pipoyan, the inspections create obstacles for the businesses. The experience of several years has shown that these inspections were ineffective since they were wrong.
Maybe there is no danger, which they should find? Pipoyan explained that for identifying the problem the monitoring projects should be implemented.
“The results of the monitoring should be announced to the whole society. Then, we should understand how that is the whole world has problems, but Armenia does not”, said Pipoyan.
