Gohar Iskandaryan: Armenia is an alternative route for Iran
“After the suspension of the nuclear project Iran hasn’t been suffering a shortage of visits on presidential level. All those who have any opportunity to cooperate a business plan with Iran will knock on their door,” during a press conference said expert on Iran, Gohar Iskandaryan.
According to her this is the reason for Aliyev’s visit to Iran.
“Every country protects their interests, so does Azerbaijan. It will try to become a transit country for energy transmission, to have its dividends”, - according to Iskandaryan.
“Iran needs an alternative. The country’s energy resources go to Europe through Turkey. The situation in Turkey is tense, Turkish-Iranian relations aren’t smooth either and then there is the Kurdish. Iran needs an alternative way to Europe in this territory. The question is whether Armenia is able to find the money to invest and realize the project. Obviously, Azerbaijan is going to offer its territory as an alternative,” said Iskandaryan.
She then added that Iran wants to use Armenia’s territory, because it knows that if necessary Azerbaijan will carry out Turkey’s decisions, therefore, in case of tension in the Turkish-Iranian relations, Azerbaijan will defend Turkey’s interests.
“In this case, Iran once again won’t have another option. It is clear, that Armenia is the alternative,” concluded the expert.
