More should be done to make Armenia more attractive for Syrian Armenians: Razmik Panossian
Both the government and the international organisations shall spare no effort during this year to make Syrian Armenians stay and prosper in Armenia.
According to the chairperson of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Razmik Panossian, who spoke at the workshop «From humanitarian response to sustainable decisions» today in Yerevan, the Armenian Government has invested a lot of efforts to this end and plans to continue its support.
«In the next few years we hope to do more in order to make Armenia a more attractive place for Syrian Armenians»,- Panossian said.
Panossian further elaborated that for a successful integration a number of important staps shall be undertaken – the Government and NGOs shall work in sync and develop a strategic long-term vision, as well as aim at involving bigger donors.
Artem Asatryan, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, who was also present at the workshop, said that in collaboration with UN agencies the Armenian Government has managed to integrate around 1500 Syrian Armenians in a number of programs and a few hundreds among them found a full time job. Some 500 Syrian Armenians receive pensions in Armenia.
«Syrian Armenians have social protection of the scale that citizens of Armenians enjoy»,- the Minister said.
