Azerbaijanis like “Between hunger and fire,” Armenian film about Aghdam events of 1992
The propaganda machine of Armenia works in a very professional and organised manner, and some Azerbaijani citizens consciously or unconsciously take part in that work, Asef Guliyev writes for Lent.az.
Against the backdrop of Azerbaijan’s calls, which are in fact threats, an effect is created to confirm the statements of the Armenian side about Azerbaijan creating a real threat for the Armenians living in the territory of the NKR and thus making it impossible for the territory to be Azerbaijan’s protectorate again, the author writes.
According to him, “the interference of dilettantes and of people, who are unable to accurately assess the situation, brings about a very painful effect, and the Armenia’s propaganda naturally benefits from this.”
The author further writes that the lack of wish of the Artsakhian Armenians to live in Azerbaijan is conditioned by problems existing in the work of the democratic institutions in Azerbaijan. Notably, Azerbaijani resources “help” the Armenian side in this.
Guliyev points out a noteworthy circumstance. Voskanapat, an Armenian news website, and its Facebook page, where articles of the Azerbaijani media and of the website itself are used, is very popular among the Azerbaijani users, who like its posts.
The journalist writes that there are two Azerbaijani citizens among those who liked the recent post on that Facebook page. The post is about a film dedicated to the Aghdam events – “Between hunger and fire: Power at the expense of lives” (http://xocali.tv/xocalinet/?videos=between-hunger-and-fire-power-at-the-expense-of-lives).
On February 26, 1992, during the war in Karabakh, around 200 to 300 people (according to Human Rights Watch, and 600 according to the version propagated by Azerbaijan) were killed in unknown circumstances near the city of Aghdam. They have been deliberately withheld by the Azerbaijani authorities in the midst of the military actions. Population of the village of Khojaly, which was one of the firing points shooting at the blockaded Stepanakert (among five others) was kept in the village for months by force and was not evacuated by the authorities of Azerbaijan deliberately, in order to use them as human shields later.
Residents of Khojaly coming out through the humanitarian corridor, that the self-defence forces of NKR had left open, freely passed more than 10 km and reached the Aghdam city controlled by the Azerbaijani troops. Later, not far from the positions of Azerbaijani troops dead bodies of the villagers were found. The exact death toll remains unknown as the official Baku publishes data contradicting each other. Parliamentary Commission investigating the tragic death of the civilians at Aghdam city was dissolved by the order of Heydar Aliyev, the investigative materials are kept secret.
