Gagik Aghajanyan: Armenia has the potential of becoming a transport hub
“A unique situation has occurred in Armenia for the last 25 years,” executive director at “Apaven” cargo transportation company, Gagik Aghajanyan, told reporters at a press conference today commenting on recent regional and economic developments.
“The regional situation has actually changed, and the state which is under semi-blockade should benefit itself of the situation which is provided by Iran,” Aghajanyan stated, adding that Armenia has the potential of becoming a hub for cargo transportation.
“The Armenia-Iran railway is a political project. If succeed it may serve as transit route only for Georgia. Furthermore, cargo transportation market in Armenia is rather liberal and may serve an opportunity to turn our state into hub” Aghajanyan said.
According to him, changes are required in Tax legislation, particularly, in connection with transit transportation. “Taxes and customs for transit transportation are rather high in our state and should be amended,” the speaker said.
