“After the Constitutional changes our country has entered a phase of active changes in the system which implies contribution to a more effective management culture,” stated the newly appointed Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan during the meeting with the representatives of departments and separate institutions of the Ministry.

He noted that the President of Armenia set very clear guidelines for the coming years in his speech. “It is, in fact, the new program document of the Republic of Armenia, which will become the basis for our working order.”

“Planned reforms in the educational system should be implemented through a new procedure. Those who are able and willing to follow that procedure will continue contributing to the development of the educational system,” stated Levon Mkrtchyan.

The Minister once again stressed that professionalism will be the sole criterion of evaluation, the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Education and Science reported.

“We have managed to create the appearance of the educational system through reforms with difficulty. It’s time we thought about introducing reforms in the content. The main educational reforms were compliance and quality programs. Perhaps with some drawbacks, but we’ve managed to resolve the compliance problem. Now the problem is to give meaning to the tools created over the years as a result of the reform, otherwise they will lose their meaning,” said the Minster stressing that the problem of education quality needs serious substantial work and joint efforts.

Earlier today opposition MP Aram Manukyan from Armenian National Congress faction accused former minister of Education and Science of spoiling the education system.

“How can Armen Ashotyan’s work be considered as good? Armen Ashotyan destroyed the Armenian educational system: a system that should be kept away from political parties. I was a Deputy Minister of Education, there were 35k employees, neither of them resigned or became a part of the Armenian National Movement party,” Aram Manukyan said during the National Assembly briefing.

According to him the situation remains the same now that ARF-Dashnaktsutyun faction member Levon Mkrtchyan was appointed as the Minister of Education and Science.
