Survey results show children subjected to violence mostly by mothers
A survey on violence against children was held among1215 families having at least one underage child in Yerevan and all provinces of Armenia.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of Armenia published data of the survey finding that 44% of the participants think that violence against children is an urgent problem and 25% of them have not even thought about the issue.
It has been also revealed that physical violence is common according to 59% of the participants, psychological violence according to 43%, sexual violence to 4% and negligence according to 30% of the participants.
It is noteworthy that 83% of women and 79% of men think that children are exposed to violence mostly by mothers. As far as it concerns educational institutions, the data revealed that children are exposed to physical violence by nannies and to psychological violence by teachers.
Asked what steps are necessary to prevent violence against children, 60% of the respondents mentioned the long-term professional psychological assistance, while 24% indicated to necessary amendments to legislation
