Levon Aronyan: I should take "Ozverin" as Leopold, the Cat
Armenian chess grandmaster Levon Aronyan gave interview to “Sport-Express” ahead of the Candidates Tournament. Aronyan will try to struggle for the World Champion title for the forth time. The chess player shared views what he lacks most to struggle for the chess crown.
“I am quite a kind person who sometimes needs adrenaline. It is pity that no such “ozverin” exists like in the cartoon about Leopold. I do my best; get annoyed with myself, the opponent, everybody surrounding me, yet this happens artificially, since that is alien to me. I do not consider that very difficult, you should drug yourself somehow into that atmosphere, and then get out staying committed to yourself.
Whether do I want to become a World Champion? Yes, I want much. I definitely feel I am the best although that means nothing. Victories and dominance over long years are of more importance. As Siegbert Tarrasch once said it is not enough to be a good player you must also play well. Thus, my words lack any special meaning. The Candidates Tournament is due to start soon, on March 10. Only at the board you should prove your worth,” Aronyan said.
The Armenian admits what he lacks most and says he tries to struggle with it all along: “Certainly, I want to be the best always and everywhere. I have enough ambitions though sometimes you should control yourself to make the last move. I went along with Carlsen with “+3” points at London Candidates Tournament, yet in the final stage I could hardly calculate. At the same time I was calm like python Kaa from Mowgli cartoon. Perhaps, that is my main problem. “Nevertheless, I have some understanding of chess,” the Armenian grandmaster said.
