Oscars 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Academy Award
Leonardo DiCaprio won this year's Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the 2016 Oscars for the role of Hugh Glass in "The Revenant". As vox.com reports, a lot of people were happy to see DiCaprio finally win the coveted award after having been nominated six previous times.
The winner was announced at the 88th Academy Awards in Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on Sunday night.
DiCaprio thanked numerous collaborators and mostly praised for Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who'd won his second consecutive Best Director trophy earlier in the evening.
DiCaprio concluded by talking about the climate change. "Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work together and stop procrastinating," he said in his speech.
Meanwhile, dystopian blockbuster “Mad Max: Fury Road” swept the technical prizes, ending up the biggest winner of the night with six awards.
Mark Rylance won the award for the best actor in a supportive role, for the ''Bridge of Spies.'' Alicia Vikander was announced as the best actress in a supportive role in ''The Danish Girl.''
''Inside Out'' was announced as the best Animated feature, ''The Revenant' – Cinematography, and
‘‘Amy’’ won the award for the best Documentary feature.
