Defence Minister: The adversary constantly strains the situation
The resumption of war depends on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, which is an important and sacred cause for the Armenian people, Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan said when asked what was the probability of the war resumption. Ohanyan’s comments came at a meeting with scientists at the Armenian National Academy of Sciences.
“Necessary steps are taken with this regard to the peaceful resolution of the conflict, which means that the resolution of the conflict through political peaceful negotiations is at the baseline for the work of the military-political leadership of Armenia and that should also be build upon forming an atmosphere of trust and mutual agreement. ”
Minister Ohanyan noted with regret, that as a result of that work they have to face a situation when the opponent does not express readiness to be engaged with constructive work, to develop mechanisms for promoting trust at least on Defence Ministries’ level, which includes avoiding provocations of various nature subversive operations at the frontline, respecting the ceasefire agreement. Furthermore, it rejects the works through mechanisms of international investigation when violations occur.
“All these come to show that the adversary constantly strains the situation, first of all, for having political purposes inside the country as well as obtaining unilateral advantage at the international arena.”
Defence Minister indicated that the Ministry gets prepared for war every day guided by the work done by Defence Ministry, the General Staff and subordinate structures.
“As President Sargsyan has said, we do not want war but we are not afraid of fighting, that is, we are ready to defend our state and its sacred part - Artsakh.”
Ohanyan added that the formed military-political situation, regional and international developments do not speak of the possibility of a large-scale war.
“We exert best efforts to deter those wishes through national and international guarantees, but if the war starts what else is left except defending the homeland.” Ohanyan concluded.
