Garik Hayrapetyan: Women in Armenia receive 35.9% less salary than men
The World Economic Forum estimated in 2015 that if we continue to fight for women's rights at this pace, complete equality will be reached by 2133, said UNFPA Armenia Country Office Assistant Representative Garik Hayrapetyan during a press conference on discrimination against women organized by «Media Center».
He then presented the 2015-2016 research of UNFPA Armenia Country Office, stating that in Armenia in economic terms the employment gender gap is 35.9%, “This means that women in general receive 35.9% less salary than man.”
According to Hayrapetyan, Armenia is the third on the list compared with the indicators of Western Europe and Central. This gap in EU is 16% and 22.9% in the whole world.
“Our preliminary study showed that employment restrictions applied on women add $50-60 million to the GDP of the country, that is to say, the GDP of Armenia doesn't suffer a deficit of $50-60 which is a result of employment restrictions applied against women, ” Garik Hayrapetyan concluded.
