Edward Nalbandyan: Federica Mogherini confirmed EU to fully support OSCE Minsk Group Format
The European Union has continuously supported the OSCE Minsk Group efforts and emphasized that no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict exits. Mrs. Mogherini reiterated this position, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said in an interview with “Kommersant” newspaper.
“The European Union has continuously supported the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia’s, France’s and the US efforts and emphasized that no alternative to the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict exits. Mrs. Mogherini reiterated this position. We greatly value the OSCE Minsk Group efforts. Regretfully, one of the parties to the conflict has a differing approach. The responsibility that the conflict remains unsolved should be put on neither Yerevan, nor the mediators. We have consistently stated our readiness to reach an agreement based on the proposals by the Co-chairs. The situation reached a level when Baku accused the mediators of Islamaphobia and sees no meaning to meet them, as the Co-chairs do not pressure on the Armenian side. I can assume the Azerbaijani side has a vague understanding of the mediators’role,” Nalbandyan said.
Moving on, Nalbandyan said that instead of putting pressure on a party to the conflict, the OSCE Minsk Group efforts should be aimed at establishing a dialogue, organizing meetings between the parties, facilitate a rapprochement.
“The Karabakh conflict is one of the rare cases where states, such as the US, France and Russia have common approach,” Nalbandyan noted referring to the five joint statements by the Heads of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries.
“There is no alternative to a negotiated settlement of the conflict, and we will continue to work with Ca-chairs in efforts aimed at exclusively peaceful resolution of the conflict,” Nalbandyan said.
