Magnus Carlsen sees Levon Aronyan among the main favorites at Candidates Tournament
World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has predicted the winner of the Candidates Tournament launched in Moscow. Carlsen’s comments came at a commentary made for the VG TV Channel.
“I do not think Nakamura would (win). My prediction is one of the trio Caruana, Aronyan and Karyakin,” Carlsen said, adding that is only his own prediction and he would bet only on the mentioned.
The Norwegian chess grand master then said it would be strange for him to compete with Anand for the World Chess Champion title for the third time in a row. He would be surprised at Topalov’s and Svidler’s victory either.
At the same time Carlsen considers Armenian grand master Levon Aronyan as a player of his generation
“Despite the difference in our ages, I consider Levon as a player of my generation, since we started playing at chess competitions at the same time,” Carlsen noted.
