Media reports: Azerbaijan authorities consider tolerance towards Armenians “blow to national identity” and “threat to independence”
The head of the executive apparatus of the World Azerbaijanis Congress, Samir Adigezalli, joined to the official policy of Armenophobia conducted in Azerbaijan, according to Moderator.az.
When asked about the elections of the members of the Council of State Support to Non-Governmental Organisations under the Auspices of the President of Azerbaijan, Adigezalli told the website he regretted over the information about an “Armenian’s grandson” being among the candidates.
“The most awful is that there is an Armenian’s grandson among the candidates. This news must worry our entire nation. We should not give Armenians’ grandchildren the chance to hold executive positions. Some officials, who support such people, should be repulsed in a most serious manner,” he said.
According to Adigezalli, everyone saying that “the Armenians are not the Azerbaijanis’ enemies” either are the Armenians’ friends or were nurtured with Armenian milk.
“All the state offices and the Azerbaijani public activists should express a stern attitude and not allow Armenians’ grandchildren live in the same settlement with them. Such tolerance and humanity are a blow to our national identity and a threat to our independence,” Adigezalli said.
According to Azerbaijani opposition newspaper Musavat, Armenophobia became a nation-wide activity in Azerbaijan and has reached such an extent that for a easy stay in this country one needs only to accuse someone that either he is "Armenian" or has "pro-Armenian views. At the same time, no one needs any proof, you just have to blame a person to become the favorite of the power. "Cases of no-Armenophobia are only a result of obligations towards the West. If a person will show hatred towards Armenians, the West would not cooperate with him," the newspaper concludes.
According to the Azerbaijani reports, the materials and stories of the local media have recently seen a rise of use of insults, obscene language and unpleasant expressions when covering Armenia and the Armenians. In 2014, the head of the Department of expertise, programming and analytics of the National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan, TavakkulDadashev, called on Azerbaijani media to go on using insults in the articles covering Armenian topics as much as possible.
