Duplicate of one of Jugha Cross-stones to be erected in Cyprus
A duplicate of one of the Old Jugha cross-stones (Khachkars) will be erected in the park next to the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The decision was made within the cooperation in the area of culture between the two states, press office of Armenia's Ministry of Culture reports.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades along with the Ministers of Culture of the two states will attend the cross-stone opening ceremony.
According to the report, the suggestion of placing a Khackkar came from Armenia's Ministry of Culture at the request of the Cyprus Foreign Ministry.
The cross-stone dates back to 1598, and Ruben Nalbandyan, well-known master and founder of the special school of the cross stone craftsmanship, is the author of the work.
The ministry reminds that ''Armenia's cross-stones art. Symbolism and craftsmanship of Khachkars'' application was previously inscribed in the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
