Vardan Arzakanyan: HIV most common in the provinces
HIV carriers are mainly from Shirak Province, said National Centre for AIDS Prevention of Ministry of Health of Armenia epidemiologist Vardan Arzakanyan during a discussion on “HIV/AIDS prevalence, prevention and awareness activities in Gegharkunik Province”.
2279 citizens of Armenia have been diagnosed with HIV from 1988 until February 29, 2016. 69% of the carriers are male, 52% of who are aged 25-39.
“There are 165 HIV carriers in Gegharkunik Province the majority of who are men. The transmission path is mainly heterosexual. Gegharkunik Province is the third in Armenia, after Shirak and Lori Provinces, where there are many registered HIV cases,” Arzakanyan said.
