Yerevan Perspectives: Conductor John Eliot Gardiner to arrive in Armenia
It’s been 15 years that Yerevan Perspectives International Festival invites world famous musicians, orchestras and choirs to Armenia. This year as well the festival will stay true to its tradition inviting only the best, whose appearance in any country and any concert hall is a real music holiday.
During an interview with Panorama.am festival director Sona Hovhannisyan said that this year’s first concert of Yerevan Perspectives International 16th Festival will take place in April.
“In 2015 we organized “With You Armenia” concert series dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. We’ve invited one of the participants of the last year’s series Estonian National Male Choir who will perform a magnificent programme for the Armenian audience on April 24. We have planned that the concert will be held at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Yerevan,” she said.
According to Sona Hovhannisyan, the concerts will focus on the 15th anniversary of the Festival, as all the concerts of the pervious year were dedicated to the Armenian Genocide. She said that more than a dozen musicians, foreign guests, cultural, political and public figures will take part in the concert referring the cultural diplomacy of the festival and its service in various aspects during these years.
For the first time, Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev, English violinist Nigel Kennedy, The King's Singers will perform in Armenia. The organizers also managed to invite the London Symphony Orchestra along with Monteverdi Choir led by Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Hagen Quartet to perform in Armenia.
According to Hovhannisyan, the Byurakan Academy continues to function actively where famous musicians, baritone Vladimir Chernov, conductor and violinist Yuri Bashmet, pianist Boris Berezovsky and others will give master classes.
