Greece stands by the Armenian Genocide remarks, calls on Turkey to face historical record
Foreign Ministry of Greece has responded to the Turkish criticism over the Armenian Genocide remarks made by the Greek leadership during the visit of the Armenian President to Greece.
Greece Foreign Ministry spokesperson Konstantinos Koutras, whose comments appeared on the Greek MFA website, deemed Turkish reaction as “unacceptable.”
“Turkey appears to believe that if history does not agree with its claims, so much the worse for history. But this is too precarious a time for cheap and hypocritical rhetoric,” the statement reads, adding; “Obviously, the Republic of Turkey must abandon its obsessions and come to terms with its historical record. Greece will be at Turkey’s side in this difficult task.”
To recall, Turkish MFA issued a statement yesterday calling Armenian President and Greek leadership remarks on the Armenian Genocide as “disconnected with realities” and aimed against “Turkish identity.”
