Passenger jet crashes at Russian Rostov-on-Don, 62 dead, no Armenians on board
The Boeing 737-800 flight operated by Fly Dubai air company coming from Dubai with 55 passengers and 7 crew members on board crashed at about 03:50 Moscow time (00:50 GMT) on Saturday while attempting to land amid poor weather conditions at Russian Rostov-on-Don Airport, Sputnik agency reports adding that all people on board the aircraft were killed in the crash.
The Russian Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case after the Saturday crash,. An An emergencies source told RIA Novosti that a tailstrike could have been the cause of the plane crash in the Russian Rostov Region.
According to the source, most people on board the crashed passenger jet Boeing-737-800 were residents of the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, there also were foreigners among them, including citizens of Spanish, Ukrainian nationals, while the crew were all nationals of the United Arab Emirates.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the crash, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Meanwhile Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tigran Balayan posted a message on Twitter saying no Armenians were on board of the crashed aircraft. Balayan also extended condolences to the families and the relatives of the victims.
