Kirsan Ilyumzhinov: Armenian Chess Federation is one of the most actives
FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov spoke about the Candidates Tournament 2016 and Armenian Chess Federation and FIDE cooperation.
“Armenian Chess Federation is one of the most active members of 186 FIDE federations and a role model for many of them, and I always represent ACF and its President Serzh Sargsyan’s work. He and his team carry out a great work towards making chess public, and it wasn’t a coincidence that the Armenian team became triple Olympic champion. Very few countries can be proud with triple Olympic champion national teams. Work is being done in Armenia with the purpose to create professional chess players, on the other hand chess is a mass sport in Armenia. Making chess a mass game is one of FIDE objectives,” said Ilyumzhinov, reports chessfed.am.
Then FIDE President stated that Armenia is the first country where chess has become a compulsory subject in schools.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov also spoke about his game with Serzh Sargsyan saying that the latter is in a perfect shape.
