Deputy Minister: Strong growth in tourism recorded in Artsakh
Over the past years a drastic increase in the flow of tourists has been recorded in Artsakh, NKR Deputy Minister of Economy Sergey Shahverdyan said during a press conference.
According to data presented by the minister, an estimated 30-40% average growth has been recorded in the republic’s tourism sector until 2014.
“Then, in 2014 we had a decline, while we finished up the year 2015 with a 13% increase,” Shahverdyan said, adding that Artsakh visitors are mainly from the US, Europe, and Russia.
Known Russian businessman, artists have preferred to have vacation in Artsakh during the recent years.
Sergey Shahverdyan underscored, that the tourism sector is growing in Artsakh at a rapid pace. Cultural, archeological tourisms are in the rise as well. They try to attract visitors not only by temples but also unique architectural monuments located in Arstakh.
“We have number of functioning reserves, the Tigranakert Historical Cultural Reserve, Azokh Cave state conservational reserve, Togh Meliks Palace among them,” the Deputy Minister mentioned.
He then added that works are underway to promote agricultural tourism in the republic.
