Armenian President offers condolences to the leadership and people of Belgium
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan sent today a letter of condolences to the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Charles Michel on the explosions in Brussels airport and metro stations which left a few dozens of innocent victims, Press department of the President’s Office reports.
“I convey our sympathies and support to You, friendly people of Belgium and the relatives of the victims wishing them patience and strength of spirit in this difficult time. Armenia decisively condemns any manifestation of terrorism and expresses its commitment in bringing its participation in the fight against that evil ,” reads the message of the President of Armenia.
According to preliminary data, 17 people were killed and 20 injured in a twin blast in Brussels Zaventem airport. The explosions occurred at the airport departure hall. All flights were cancelled, the airport is closed. Shortly after the airport explosions, two more blasts were recorded at Schuman and Maalbeek metro stations located near the EU offices. All metro lines were shut down after the attacks.
Belgian authorities have raised the security alert to the highest level following the blasts. The federal prosecutor of the Kingdom told state media that the explosion at the airport was a suicide attack.
