Death toll in Brussels explosions reaches 34, Islamic State allegedly behind the attack
The death toll of the terrorist attacks in Brussels has grown to 34, Reuters reports referring to the updated data released by the local officials.
The report reads 20 people were killed in the metro blast; another 14 were killed in the twin blasts recorded at the airport.
Meanwhile, Islamic State jihadists have claimed responsibility for the deadly blasts in the Belgium capital, according to reports of Kurdish media, quoted by Express Daily.
The source reminds that security experts have also suggested ISIS are to blame for the Brussels atrocity. Experts are now warning that today’s terror attacks could be a revenge strike after the suspected Paris massacre mastermind was detained in a police raid in which he was shot in the leg.
To remind, multiple blasts hit Brussels earlier today resulting in dozens of killed and injuries. The first explosions occurred at the airport departure hall. All flights were cancelled, the airport is closed. Shortly after the airport explosions, two more blasts were recorded at Schuman and Maalbeek metro stations located near the EU offices. All metro lines were shut down after the attacks.
Belgian authorities have raised the security alert to the highest level following the blasts.
