Tevan Poghosyan reports details from Brussels
Members of the Armenian parliamentary delegation didn’t suffer during the explosions in Brussels airport and metro stations, Armenian NA delegation member to Euronest, Tevan Poghosyan, told Panorama.am.
According to him, during the explosions, some of the members of Armenian delegation were in the Parliament building, and others were on their way there.
“Obviously, the situation is tense in the city, the traffic is paralyzed. The roads are closed; there are police and ambulance cars on the move. Everything is normal with the Armenian delegation, the work proceeds normally,” Tevan Poghosyan said.
To remind, the Armenian delegation to Euronest Parliamentary Assembly of the Eastern Partnership is on a visit to Brussels to participate in the fifth session of the Assembly. The delegation is headed by Artak Zakaryan, Chairman of the Armenian delegation to Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, and comprises of members Hovhannes Sahakyan, Hrant Bagratyan, Mher Shahgeldyan, Karine Achemyan and Vahe Enfiajyan. Parliamentarian Shushan Petrosyan is in Brussels as well and is about o participate at the women’s forum to be conducted within the scope of the Assembly session.
According to preliminary data, 17 people were killed and 20 injured in a twin blast in Brussels Zaventem airport. The explosions occurred at the airport departure hall. All flights were cancelled, the airport is closed. Shortly after the airport explosions, two more blasts were recorded at Schuman and Maalbeek metro stations located near the EU offices. All metro lines were shut down after the attacks.
Belgian authorities have raised the security alert to the highest level following the blasts. The federal prosecutor of the Kingdom told state media that the explosion at the airport was a suicide attack.
