Samvel Martirosyan: Cyberattacks against Armenian banks
Nobody deals with cybercrime awareness in Armenia, Social Media and Information Security Analyst Samvel Martirosyan said during “Cyber security development in Armenia: from special regulations to strategies” seminar organized by Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs.
According to the expert, Armenia has never been a “serious market” for cybercriminals until now. Yet recently Armenia has become a target not only for our neighbors.
Recently, VTB Armenia Bank reported that fraudulent transactions from small amount of cards issued by the bank (up to 200) were initiated outside of the country.
According to Samvel Martirosyan, the main problem is low awareness level.
He informed that even though only one bank officially declared about cyberattack, yet three more banks in Armenia have recently had such problems.
According to Martirosyan, another example of lack of awareness is that people don’t know which cash machines are more secure. The expert said that the machines close to the bank have stronger control, so they are most secure.
Representing the appearance of secure ATMs, Martirosyan said that the part where you put the card is more convex.
