Gevorg Gevorgyan: Hayak 2016 may be postponed
We cannot exclude that Hayak National Film Award won't take place this year, director of the National Cinema Centre of Armenia Gevorg Gevorgyan said, noting that two major companies funding the award refused their assistance this year for unknown reasons.
“We are negotiating now. If we find a funding source by the end of the month, the award will definitely take place, if not, we’ll postpone it,” Gevorgyan said hoping that the negotiations will end in positive results.
According to him, by the end of the year it will become clear whether or not the award will take place.
Answering the question about whether or not the state funds the award, Gevorgyan said that unlike festivals, the state doesn’t fund awards. The state has always supported them, however, it is necessary to have a stable funding source.
National Film Award is an open annual competition of Armenian cinematographers. The award was created to encourage and develop national cinematography, to discover new names, to bring the Armenian audience back to cinemas, to support new projects and to preserve the best traditions of national cinematography.
Hayak Award first took place in 2012. It was decided not to hold the award in 2015 conditioned by various programmes dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The committee decided to hold Hayak Award in Spring 2016.
