Pope Francis the most popular figure worldwide, Armenia among the states of highest support rate for him
The poll conducted by WIN/Gallup International suggests that the head of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis is the most popular figure worldwide leaving behind any political leader, the data of the released report show. According to the source about 1,000 people were questioned in 64 countries.
According to the data, 54% of the world population has a favourable opinion of Pope Francis, against 12% who hold an unfavorable opinion and 34% that do not know how to evaluate the Pope.
The regions where the positive image of the Pope is the highest are Latin America, North America and the European Union.
Among the 64 countries, the Pope´s image is highest in Portugal, the Philippines, Argentina and Italy. Positive opinions of Pope’s Francis increases with age of respondents, says the report.
In Eastern Europe net support for the Pope is high in Georgia (+70), Armenia (+68), Bosnia and Herzegovina (+66) and Ukraine (+51), while Azerbaijan (-2) is the country where the Pope has the less favorable image.
