Russian Foreign Ministry defends its Co-Chair against Ilham Aliyev’s criticism
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova recommended the journalist to check which Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group was in the focus of Azerbaijani President Aliyev’s criticism. The transcript of Russian MFA official response is posted on the Foreign Ministry website.
Zakharova’s comments came at a press briefing held on March 24, when a reporter asked her to assess Azerbaijani President’s recent statements criticizing the OSCE mediators dealing with the Karabakh settlement and calling their work inefficient and provocative.
“I can state that our Co-Chair (Ambassadors Igor Popov) has proved to be a constructive and experienced participant of the negotiation process. The sincerity of our aim is evidenced. Along with Azerbaijani and Armenian sides we wish to solve that hard situation which remains a major problem in the bilateral relations. We want to remove that problem from the agenda and to solve it based on the International law, equality and respect of the parties,” Zakharova said.
