Karadzic case: Russia slams ICC over making solely Serbians responsible for Yugoslavia war crimes
Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia continued to create the myth that the Serbian people were solely responsible for war crimes in the former Yugoslavia, Reuters reports citing a press statement released by Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
The comments came as a reaction to the conviction of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic by the ICC in Hague.
Russian MFA said it would have been better if money spent on the international tribunal had been spent on the peace process in countries of the former Yugoslavia, according to the source.
Radovan Karadzic, former Bosnian Serb politician, served as the President of Republika Srpska during the Bosnian War. On 24 March 2016 he was found guilty of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, and sentenced to 40 years imprisonment in connection with his campaign to drive Bosnian Muslims and Croats out of villages claimed by Serb forces during the war.
Serbian government has repeatedly complained over what it called a biased of the international tribunal against Serbs pointing out the fact that crimes against Serbs during the war were never investigated.
