The message of Holy Saturday
The Holy Week includes the last important events of Christ’s earthly life: triumphant entry to Jerusalem, Last Supper, Betrayal, Tortures, Crucifixion, Death, Burial and finally Resurrection.
Holy Saturday marks the destruction of hell and liberation of righteous souls by Jesus. According to Church orders, after the Evening Mass a new day begins marking the Resurrection of Christ and the end of the Lent.
Qahana.am informs that the Evening Mass will take place today at 17:00 which will be followed by candle-lighting ceremony (jrakalouytz) at 18:00. People will take the blessed light home.
This year the Lent began on February 8. It lasts 48 days until the eve of Resurrection of Christ. This year Easter will be celebrated on March 27. The 40 days of the Lent symbolize the period of Christ’s prayer, fasting and repentance in the desert. The Lent is followed by the Holy Week.
