Yerevan Puppet Theatre forced to cancel Austria visit
Yerevan Puppet theatre named after Hovhannes Tumanyan receives numerous invitations to participate in international festivals but is often forced to cancel those due to shortage of funds, Ruben Babayan, Manager and the Art Director of the Puppet Theatre told Panorama.am.
“We have recently cancelled a visit to Austria because of transportation costs. Other invitations are to Croatia, Russia, and Bulgaria. Let us see which one we will accept, ” he said.
Ruben Babayan suggested that Yerevan Puppet theatre does not fall behind other similar theatres in the world and would not receive invitations to partake in international festivals otherwise. He reminded that they attended 7 international festivals in 2015 alone.
“The theater is demanded provided the condition that art is the basis of it. If one creates - never falls behind,” Babayan noted.
He also informed that the spectators will see an updated version of “Operation Tasty Piece,” performance coming soon. “Anahit” by Ghazaros Aghayan,“Thumbelina” by Hans Christian Andersen, “Horton the Elephant” by Dr. Seuss are expected during the year.
“The most important thing is that performances are staged by young directors, young actors perform which is an evidence that the theatre has a good future,” Babayan said.
