Wrong methods are employed to fight wolves as usual, environmentalists say
“The decision of hunting wolves announced years ago in order to reduce their number and the attacks on the villagers is wrong and we then voiced our concern about the reasonability of the method,” environmentalist Silva Adamyan told reports at a press conference.
According to the speaker, the relevant bodies continue fighting wolves through improper methods. “The village communities which are less resistant to wolves attacks should be maintained in more secure conditions. The households lack roofs, barns have no doors, villagers lack dogs to fight wolves which is important for the communities subject to wolves attacks.”
Adamyan pointed out the role of science and scientists in developing a strategy to fight wolves. “Scientists should conduct studies and monitoring of the number of the wolves in order to reveal the reasons for the growing number of the recorded attacks. Instead, a decision is made to simply kill them.”
Meanwhile environmentalist Karine Panosyan suggested that the lack of food for wolves comes not only in the result of the construction of hydropower stations or deforestation but also wildlife, which serve as main food for wolves.
The environmentalist concluded the meeting saying that Wolves are scimitars of the nature and one can only guess what will happen if the practice of hunting them continuous.
