Pre-election campaign for local elections kicks off in Armenia
Pre-election campaign for self-government bodies starts in Armenia’s 36 communities from March 30. Mayoral posts are to be elected in 33 communities of the republic.
In Talin three candidates will run for the post of the town mayor, including acting Mayor Sargis Aramyan from the Republican Party, Gurgen Grigoryan from “Armenian Revival” Party and Tigran Harutyunyan from ARF-Dashnaktutsutyun.
Two candidates will struggle for the Spitak Mayor’s post, including acting Mayor Gagik Sahakyan, and Deputy Governor of Lori Province Vanik Asatryan. The two representatives of the Republican Party are self-nominated, since the ruling party has not yet vowed its support to either candidate.
The major contest will evolve in Hrazdan, where the struggle will be among Republican candidate Aram Danielyan, who is also the acting mayor of the town, Sasun MIkayelyan from “Civil Agreement” Party, and Arthur Misakyan from “Armenian Revival” party.
In most villages Republican acting mayors are the sole candidates nominated for the elections. It should be noted that registered candidates might withdraw their candidacy until April 7. Local elections will be held on April 17, 2016.
