Armenian specialists may be engaged in reconstruction works of Jesus’s Tomb of the Holy Sepulchre Jerusalem Church
Renovation works of the Jesus’s Tomb of the Holy Sepulchre Church in Jerusalem are expected, and Armenian specialists may be involved in the works. The control of the church is shared among Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic and Roman Catholic churches, Director of the Museums of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Asoghik priest Karapetyan told Panorama.am, adding that church representatives are obliged to care about and ensure the reconstruction works of the Jesus's Tomb as it had been practiced over centuries.
“Everything will be done under the guidance of the Patriarch, and Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin will be notified in due manner,” he said.
Warden at the Holy Sepulchre Church Father Samvel Avoyan told Panorama.am that consultations are expected in connection with the reconstruction works, and every issue would be clarified to move forward within a month.
He also noted that an Armenian architect works in Jerusalem who is supposed to take part in the renovation works.
“At this moment he is engaged with the works. In case of a necessity, other specialist might be invited from Armenia,” he said.
Father Samvel then informed that reconstruction works would last for 4-8 months initially with the renovation of the tomb surface. During the repairs of the internal details the tomb will probably be closed, he informed.
Jesus’s Tomb reconstructing requires 3 Million Euros to be allocated by the three Patriarchates. “We need a preliminary calculation in order to reduce the costs,” he said.
According to the website of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem. The Holy tomb was built in 1810 and never reconstructed so far.
