The situation on the line of contact between the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops escalated at night of April 2, Turan news agency reports. The agency highlights that local sources report about firing of front-line Azerbaijani human settlements and destructions.

Meanwhile, users of Azerbaijani-language online forums and social media report about panic among the population and evacuation of the residents of the Tartar district, Azerbaijan.

In its turn, Moderator.az informs that at 4 a.m., firefight in the direction of Tartar and Barda started, however, the residents of the front-line village Gapanli, Tartar district, at first took the roar for an earthquake. The website reports about several wounded among the Azerbaijani side.

The RA Ministry of Defense, in its turn, reported that at the moment, as a result of intensive actions by the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army divisions, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces retreated to their initial positions along the whole perimeter of the contact line between Artsakh and Azerbaijani forces; the enemy suffered numerous losses.

The RA Ministry of Defense sharply criticizes the Azerbaijani authorities' unprecedentedly aggressive and irresponsible decision to start military action and officially states that the continuation of such a behavior may bring about unpredictable consequences for the Azerbaijani side. The whole responsibility for the unprecedented escalation of the situation on the line of contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijani forces lies with the Azerbaijani authorities. 

The Defense Ministry of Armenia also draws the attention of the international community, and in particular, of the OSCE Minsk Group, to the current situation and expects an immediate targeted intervention for a control over the situation and for a prevention of large-scale military action.
