ANC South America strongly condemns Aliyev regime’s aggression and adventurism against NKR
The Armenian National Committee of South America released a statement strongly condemning Azerbaijani aggression on the Line of Contact and warning that the adventurism of Azerbaijani President IlhamAliyev’s regime could lead to a war in the region. The statement is published on Armenian-Argentinian website Diario Armenia.
In the statement, ANC South America expressed its support to the position of Armenian government seeking to resolve the conflict through negotiations, and demanded urgent and active involvement of the OSCE Minsk Group in order to stop the militaristic and unconstructive policy of Azerbaijan, thus preventing escalation of arms race that could destabilize the situation in the Caucasus.
The Armenian National Committee of South America stressed that the unexpected massive attack unleashed by the Azerbaijani armed forces on the Line of Contact with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) on the night of April 1 to 2 became the most serious violation of ceasefire in the post-war period.
A young boy was killed as a result of shelling of peaceful population in Martuni region, and many people were wounded. Azerbaijan used tanks, helicopters, drones and heavy artillery in the southern, southeastern and northeastern directions of NKR border. The Artsakh defense forces stopped the attacks.
“This is not the first case when Azerbaijan violates the ceasefire. Moreover, more than a year ago, it began a harassing war with the use of snipers and saboteurs. However, the scale of the latest attack shows Baku’s true intention to move on.
“It is generally known that IlhamAliyev’s government does not want a peaceful settlement of the conflict, using it for spreading Armenophobia and aggressive nationalism, distracting the attention from the crisis of regime legitimacy, violations of human rights and poverty among the majority of the population. Meanwhile, he remains in power, appropriating oil wealth,” says the statement.
