French Socialist Party calls on sides to return to initial positions
The French Socialist Party has released a statement in connection with the situation on Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact.
Serious clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces have been going on for three days, the statement says. Many soldiers and civilians on both sides lost their lives. This conflict is the heritage of the past when the USSR gave Azerbaijan the mostly Armenian-populated territory long claimed by Armenia.
Worried about the escalation of violence, the Socialist Party calls for immediate ceasefire and urges the sides to return to their initial positions.
“The party calls on to resume the negotiations between the sides under the aegis of the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the conflict. The party also thinks it expedient that the neighboring countries should refrain from rhetoric or steps feeding the conflict in the region which is already very unstable,” the statement says.
