French Senator: NKR has proved its viability for more than 20 years and there must be some progress in its recognition and participation in negotiations
Chairman of the French Senate European Affairs Committee Jean Bizet is very much concerned about the fresh escalation of violence on Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact.
“Now when the OSCE Minsk Group has initiated emergency meetings it should be stated that this attack that unfortunately killed many Karabakh civilians did not do service to anyone, leaving unchanged the correlation of forces on the frontline,” Mr Bizet said.
Jean Bizet stressed that for the Karabakh people, independence and establishment of statehood is nothing else but a way to live safely in peace, a possibility to build a democratic state respecting its citizens, open to the world and oriented at the future.
Mr Bizet thinks that the international community must realize its responsibility. “For more than 20 years, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has proved its viability and reliability, and there must be some progress in the issue of its recognition and, consequently, participation in the negotiations.”
He added that it is necessary to propose mechanisms obliging the sides to respect the ceasefire. Yerevan and Stepanakert agree to such mechanisms, but Baku does not agree yet.
Jean Bizet highlighted that the “will to settle the conflict and the spirit of responsibility must prevail in the actions of the conflicting sides and the neighboring countries, including Turkey.”
