Serzh Sargsyan: We openly say, we oppose Russia’s arms sales to Azerbaijan
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan gave an interview to German DW Channel and reflected on the recent developments in Nagorno Karabakh.
Asked how the President evaluates the role of Russia being a strategic ally of Armenia and at the same time selling weapons to Azerbaijan, President said Armenia never concealed it discontent with Russia’s arm sales to Azerbaijan.
The Armenian President, in particular, noted: “I have never stated Russia is a patron for us and overall, no state may be a patron for Armenia. Russia has never played the role for Armenia as Turkey does for Azerbaijan.”
President Sargsyan then added that Armenia has repeatedly opposed arm sells to Azerbaijan from Russia. “Indeed, that is the case. Russia is our strategic ally and we have a strategic agreement with Russia. With all that bearing in mind, we openly say we are against Russia’s arms sales to Azerbaijan.
