Armenian-Russian relations not only of allied nature but also based on legal framework
“Armenian-Russian relations are not of business nature, not of allied character only in words but also are put on the legal basis. That is obvious to all, including to Azerbaijan,” Minister Nalbandian said during an interview to Armenian Public TV Channel. Minister Nalbandian’s statement came in request to comment on the public resentment over the recent statements by some high level Russian officials.
Nalbandian then highlighted the deepness of the Armenian-Russian relations.
“It is not Azerbaijan that hosts a Russia military base, not Azerbaijan is a member to CSTO, not Azerbaijan unlike Armenia which has dozens of agreements with Russia on defense, military, and industrial spheres. It was not Azerbaijan, which signed the fifth protocol with Russia. The list may be continued”
Nalbandian touched upon the neutrality adopted by some of the EEU states regarding the conflict escalation saying Armenia will raise the question in the upcoming CSTO Summit of the Foreign Ministers to be held in Yerevan.
“CSTO Summits and Ministerial Councils accepted for numerous times statements which stated the position of the CSTO member states on the conflict settlement. That is about the support to the Co-Chairs efforts to settle the conflict based on the three principles through exclusively peaceful means, the five statements by the heads of the Co- Chairing countries. Even if a member state expresses a different opinion and commits a blunders in some other place, we remind them of the common position - which is accepted by consensus at the presidential level. Instructions are given based on those decisions to the corresponding ambassadors of the states to act in line with those abovementioned decisions,” Nalbandian concluded.
