Hovhannes Gabuzyan - World University Chess Champion
14th World University Chess Championship ended in Abu Dhabi. Four representatives from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture participated in the tournament. Armenian grand masters Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, 20, Hovhannes Gabuzyan, 20, and Tigran Petrosyan, 21, partook in the boy’s tournament, while Maria Gevorgyan participated in the girl’s tournament.
Hovhannes Gabuzyan recorded an outstanding result gaining 8 points out 9 and became the 14th World University Champion. Samvel Ter-Sahakyan took the 4th place, while Tigran S. Petrosyan - the 7th. Armenian Women Champion Maria Gevorgyan who started well in the beginning of the tournament weakened her positions in the final games and took the 10th place.
Armenian National team took the second place in the ranking leaving only the Russian National team ahead.
